Preview of the “8 Nations 2012″ in Berlin

It is probably the most important european badminton tournament for the age group u15: the Eight-Nations-Tournament – also known as the “8 Nations” in badminton circles.
Every February, the eight leading european badminton nations come together to compete in a team event and a singles event. The host countries change yearly between the participating associations. In 2012, the tournament will take place in Germany again, this time in Berlin.

From February 16-19, 2012, the young talents from tomorrow will compete at the Great Gym (oder Große Halle) at the Sportforum in Berlin – Hohenschönhausen. The SG EBT Berlin will host the event and will try to organize the tournament in “proven quality.”

The team event will be held in a two group mode, where as the first group will consist of Denmark, France, Germany and the Netherlands and the second group of England, Sweden, Switzerland and Belgium. Within the groups, every nation will play against each other. The resulting first-place teams will take part in the finale, the second-place teams in the match for third place, etc. Per team match, there will be two boys and two girls-singles as well as two boys and two girls-doubles and one mixed double. All in all, 9 game points will be awarded per team match.
The winners of the singles event will be determined in a classic mode in the corresponding disciplines.

The “8 Nations 2012″ will be hosted by the SG EBT Berlin. “We are very proud to be able to host such a tournament in Berlin. Apart from the “Wilson German Junior”, this will be the second big youth tournament, which we brought to Berlin and we are looking forward to welcome the badminton talents from tomorrow in Berlin.” said Manfred Kehrberg, head of the department badminton of the SG EBT Berlin.
Lead Sponsor of the “8 Nations 2012″ is the company “Wilson”, who have already proven their commitment to the young badminton talents with the “Wilson German Junior”. Alongside “Wilson”, the German Badminton Association DBV, the Badminton Association Berlin-Brandenburg and the state of Berlin will be supporting the tournament.

Great signs for a top-class youth badminton tournament in Berlin and maybe there will be a future world champion among the participants!
